Making Money on the Internet

One of the things that being involved with network marketing teaches you pretty quickly is that most people don't understand what you do.  Some think they understand, some think its a scam, some just think you sell things. When you are both able to stay home like Robin and I do, they really start to take you at least a little seriously (or they think you are dealing drugs--just depends!).  Some people think you are taking a chance and, probably, some are jealous.  Who knows.  My dad looked at me the other day and said "you know, I just don't understand how people can make money on the Internet."  Seems like a quesiton that would be easy to answer, but I found it wasn't quite a easy as I thought.  This weekend, the prefect example presented itself.

Robin has a fairly large presence on the Internet and huge presence in the multilevel marketing world.  Because he is so visible, people are always talking to him about about various businesses, particularly MLM.  Sometimes questions about running the MLM, the compensation plan, and sometimes about a new opportunity.  Well, this weekend he heard about a new thing that Facebook was doing called ChatToText (http://www.chattotext.com/amember/go.php?r=464&i=l0).  For $5.99 a month, you can access this program that lets you send chat directly from your facebook account to people's cell phones.  (My kids missed the significance of this since they said it was easier just to do it from their phone.  Robin asked them if they could text 3,000 people all at once--then they got it.)  Besides being pretty inexpensive it is pretty cool.  Facebook let these developers use their platform and didn't just offer the ChatToText, they made it an MLM opportunity.  In other words, if you told people about the ChatToText and those people signed up, you would get $2.00for you first tier.  Plus you would get $o.25 for every person they signed up and on and on for eight levels (up to several thousand people--let's say 10,000--I don't know exactly, but you can find out). Kind of like a referral fee. This money continues for every month that the person stays subscribed.  Now, this may not seem like a lot of money, but lets just do a little math.

There are about 10.5 million people on Facebook.  (This may seem like a lot, but when you consider there are 1.4 billion users on the Internet, it doesn't seem like so many.)  Maybe one fourth of people on Facebook are interested in this new product.  That's 2,625,000.  You only need to reach enough people that 10,020 sign up since that is the maximum you can get paid on.  You don't have to reach all those people yourself directly since the people you contact will contact their people, and so on.  (The average person knows about 250 people--just as a reference, if each of those 250 knows 250--you can see where this goes.)  With this opportunity alone you could make an extra $2,540 per month.  Think it will take forever to get that many people?  Robin filled up an entire position in less than two days.

Making money on the Internet is all about the numbers.  If you have a good product at a good price and  you get it out on the Internet in an effective way, you can make money.  People that sell successfully on the Internet spend a great deal of time and effort (and sometimes money) designing websites, emails, etc., that will drive the traffic to their product. Given the vast numbers, even if you only reach a small percentage, you can be successful. But you do have to work at it. So remember, it's all about the numbers!

Have a great one and thanks for reading.
